C4D - cheaper, maybe more tools (I'm not sure)
3DSmax - more expensive, lot of free and paid plugins and scripts for it which gives it even more tools and makes it very powerful.

From what I have done in Blender, you need to learn a lot of shortcuts and it is possible to achieve everything you can in most other packages.

ZBrush and Mudbox are good sculpting programs. Read about them. If you think about animation too then Blender is good choice for now. Free and as powerful as paid soft.
