New To 3D Animation, Looking For A New Hobby

I hope everyone is doing well!

Let's just jump right into it, I have never animated anything before. During this quarantine I've taken an interest in it. I first jumped on reddit and asked what a good stating point in softer and I was referred to Blender and Source Filmaker. I went ahead and downloaded those and obviously everything was completely foreign to me.



I'm using a gaming laptop at the moment - its on the older side, here are the specs




Lenovo Y50-70 Touch

-Intel Core i7 -4720HQ CPU @ 2.60 Hz 2.60 GHz

- 8 GB Ram

-64 Bit Operating System, x64-based processor

- GeForce GTX 860M




From what I understand that this is rather weak and would take forever to render anything. I'm looking to make video game content. Battles, short movies etc....




I'm just wondering if it is still possible with these specs to do animation. Are there other free 3D animation softwares that are more beginner friendly and more suitable for these specs? I know it can get rather expensive to get a proper rig for this, I just want to see if I will really like doing it before spending the money.
