Interesting idea . Could you make it work ?

First of all if you don't need tiling, turn it off

It doesnt ignore the projection, it would have to use uv then

Maybe its related to the transparency
But actually you have to see something
I think that you are plugin the alpha into the colors
Does the projection have no alphaSlot?

It would smmoth it out, and you can reweight them in areas you need, but you get away with less headache (faster response) that way
I personnaly would rather copy the weights and reweight them because ...

Yeah you could easily map a copy of it, and bind it to the same skeleton, and copy the weights from one skin to the one with the map applied

that actually depends on what type of screen adapter you have
the general perception seems to be that ati runs better with d3d, and nvida better on opengl
