texturing is my main flaw..

I have been looking for awhile now trying to find some good books or guides to texturing.
Back when I took modeling classes at ITT we were taught by a media animator, so we pretty much only learned how to make nice looking 3d text that you would see during a news broadcast, and not much texturing.

I am decent at most other things(not great but decent) but I never really got the hang of texturing models.

Does anyone have any recommended guides or books to check out?

I primarily work in 3dsmax but I am also teaching myself to use maya and mudbox

Texturing mainly consists of UV mapping and texture painting in Photoshop or a specialized program.
Which of these you don't know how to do?
