Wouldn't happen to know why using the extrude tool twice in a row results in the 2nd extrusion heading off at a skewed angle, would you?

Well it works fine if I scale the edges I'm extruding. And the first extrusion is perfect. It seems a little nonsensical, an effect without a cause.
