Job details: YAGER is an independent developer of computer and video games based in Berlin, Germany. We are specialized in the creation of AAA, multi-platform action experiences, for a global audience. Attention to detail is a hallmark of our development; from refining game play to the point of excellence, to instilling both the stories and the environments with enough depth and detail to set our products apart.
We are an English speaking studio with more than 100 people from 15 different countries. This rich mix of individual skills, backgrounds, and perspectives creates an open-minded and collaborative atmosphere vital to the success of our productions.
LEAD DESIGNER (f/m)
As THE chief architect of a games mechanics, we are offering you an opportunity to join a fresh project about to enter the pre-production phase. This is an opportunity to put your mark on an action-packed AAA cross platform title. Our designers have talent, but they need the inspiration, knowledge and experience that only you can provide to design a coherent world with innovative mechanics that will ultimately result in a game that stands out in a bloated marketplace.
Responsibilities
Overseeing the entirety of the game design, including mechanics, levels and UI
Function as the design department lead, responsible for managing our designers and representing the department in leads meetings
Work with the creative director and other department leads to define the project\'s creative vision
Lead or participate in cross-disciplinary implementation teams
Ensure the design documentation, including detailed specs, is compelling, clear, and well communicated to all disciplines
Able to balance innovation and cutting-edge design with feasibility limited by technical constraints and business parameters
Providing feedback and guidance to team members to foster their development as game designers
Collection and processing of player data and feedback to inform project-wide decisions
Qualifications
As versatile looking at the big picture as you are looking at microscopic details
7+ years game industry experience, 2+ years of management experience
At least 1 shipped AAA console game title as Lead Designer
Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
Familiarity with modern 3D game engines and related editing tools
Able to work harmoniously with a diverse team and handle the tensions inherent in creative undertakings
An in depth understanding of major elements of game design: system design, level design, character mechanics, AI, story, interface, balance and difficulty
Strong problem solving and trouble-shooting skills
Excellent creativity and demonstrated ability to generate innovative concepts, mechanics and ideas
Desirable skills:
Experience in developing for XBox 360 or Playstation 3 is beneficial
Experience with high-level programming languages a plus
Creative writing or fine arts background a plus
