Hello,

My name is Lee, I started UDKLearning YouTube channel to be able to bring all the best UDK relevant tutorials into one central location on the net. This has been done so far, and we are continuing to do so. We have now expanded to creating a school, and curriculum for learning UDK, and the programs that are needed to make great games.

But, this requires assets that are not the stock UT3 assets that come with UDK. So we are creating a package that will be used by our students, and anyone else to use inside UDK. This means they have to be top notch 3d models. All will be Environmental mesh's, no characters will be needed. The License for these model will be a free one. For the user to use them as they see fit.

What do you get out of the deal? Well, you get to use any model you create for us in you portfolio, more experience, and the UDKLearning name. I know that is not allot, but it is all I have to offer for the time being. Most of our students really do not have allot of experience yet, so asking them to do this is like asking a 1st year college student to do brain surgery. Not a good thing. That is why I am asking you. To help new 3d artist, and game designers learn at a faster and more knowledgeable pace.

Even if you do not participate, I thank you for reading this long winded post.

Also, I have copied our recruitment thread from UDK below if you would like to learn more about what we are doing. I would post a link, bu tit says I cannot because I might be a spammer. Wink If you would like to see what we are doing goto the UDK forums, and search UDKLearning. There you will find the links to all the relevant information you need to make a wise decision.

UDKLearning University

Hello,

Hi all, My name is Lee and I am creator and owner of UDKLearning. I have been lurking here on the UDK forums for a while now, and have decided to try a new experiment in learning the UDK workflow and system.

How will it work.

    1st

    Basics
I am starting up a team to create a basic UDK game. The team will be made up of people that are new to UDK, and have a burning desire to learn it, and all that UDK encompasses like I have. This will also include other programs that will be needed to make models, UV's, Textures, Sound, UI ScaleForm, and Uscript. The process will go from the install to cooking the game for release.

    2nd

    Implementation

After we get the knowledge level of the team up to a desirable level, we will start on the game. The team will be broken up into smaller teams for higher learning of a specific position found in the game design industry. All, assets created in this game will be yours, but must have a Open source license. This is due to the game being Open source, and free to everyone. So others can lern from our creation. There will be NO Exclusive content in the game. If this does not appeal to you, then please do not apply.

The Type, of game has already been chosen. It is really irrelevant for now. And the reason for this is to learn from each other, Not to make a profit, or make our own game idea. That can be done after we learn the UDK.

    3rd

    Polish

This is where we start to learn what makes a great game. Lighting, Materials, Post Processing, Game play, Sprites, and all encompassing environments. This is where we will spend most of our time. Because this is the hardest things to learn in UDK, is how to make a photo-realistic game and test our product for bugs and optimazation. The teams will mesh more here, to start to learn communication and compromise on ones vision so that all have a say so and are contributing equally.

    4th

    Release

Here, we finish the game, and release it and all it’s assets, code and project files to the UDK community. It will be free to Mod, and Adapt it to the game of your choice. Furthermore anyone that participated in the game will be able and encouraged to use their assets in their Online protfolio.

After all this, the team will decide on what direction they would like to go. It will be totally up to them.

Team Member count will be no more than 10 to 15. We will work closely with Skype, Ventrillo, Chat, and any other form of communication we can get ahold of. All project files will be hosted Via Private Torrent so all members can get them quickly. Unless I can find a good Host site for free, or close to it. MediaFire and other like it are not viable for the ammount of data we will be transferring in models, textures, sound, voice, and ect.

What I bring to the table.
Honestly, I am still learning the UDK and the workflow pipeline. But, I have some things that I can share, and possible front some of you while we are working on this project.

  1. I was accepted this week for a UDK License.

  2. Hosting files. I have a very large server sitting in my house, but I have never had a reason to use it until now.

  3. Tutorials. I have purchased a huge library of paid for tutorials that I have bought over the last 6 months that I will share with only the team.

  4. Time. Working nights, I usually have 4 hours in the middle of the day to work on the project as well as 2 to 3 hours late night as well.

  5. Drive. I never give up when I have to do something. So, you will not have to worry about being abandoned by me in the middle of the course.

If you have any other questions or concerns please post them here. All Corrispondance between team member should be done in the other thread I will have going in the WIP section of the UDK forums soon.

Applicants please PM me with your name, age, complete computer specs, current relevant game design programs, Internet speed, and relevant experience. This information is to find out if you would be able to even participate in the team.

Also, if any knowledgeable or expert UDK users would like to join the team to help with the teaching or headding up one of the micro teams, please post that here too. It would be appreciated if at all possible.
