HELP with LEGO hair pieces

Hello there! Before i ask, i would like to tell you I am experienced enough in Maya. Now, I have been fighting long now trying to make LEGO hair pieces in Maya. I can't find a way doing them correctly, because after a bit of work, vertixes mess up with the whole model and things don't come out correct . Anyone could help me? Give me a tutorial or tell me a way to do it correctly?

PS: I have perfect reference images.
