SOFA Studio is looking for Head of Story
Job details: SOFA Studio is looking for a Head of Story to join our team for the new animated feature film.
The Head of Story is responsible for managing the Storyboard Department and Storyboard Artists in this feature project. The Head of Story, in concert with the Director, translates and interprets story lines into a visual medium via sketches, thumbnail drawings and finished storyboard drawings.
Essential Job Functions:
Leads Storyboard artists and storyboarding process.
Reviews, critiques, adjusts, and approves works created in advance of Director review.
Serves as creative story lead and stimulate the teams creativity
Responsible for recruiting Storyboard Artists to enhance skills and efficiency of the whole team
Able to properly estimate productivity of the team and is accountable for delivering storyboard assignments on time and on budget.
Work closely with Production to develop schedules and standards for the department.
Illustrate script pages and story ideas.
Convey the essence of story line, scene structure, character emotion and create action and humor in alignment with the overall direction of the film
Solve story and structure problems -- punch up scenes
Develops character personality and dramatic/comedic action.
Works with Director to define staging, pacing and camera action.
Incorporates Directors notes.
Creates quick thumbnail sketches through to finished detailed storyboard panels.
Self-managing organized with good time management. Must be able to identify and meet goals
Requirements: 5+ years experience as a storyboard artist on Animated Feature Films or Animation TV series
Strong drawing ability which conveys character and action, superior pre-visualization and artistic drawing skills.
Strong understanding of basic story structure, character development as well as an understanding of staging and use of camera.
Familiar with 3D production process, able to plan and adjust Storyboard schedule according to the needs of a film.
Able to work both collaborative and independently.
Able to visually analyze and translate scripts.
Able to create quick sketches through to finished storyboard panels.
Able to create inventive ideas and stories with a sense of entertainment and humor for multiple types of creative projects.
Experience with Photoshop is necessary.
Experience as a Head of Story on a theatrically-released Feature Animated Film a plus.
Experience with the Toonboom a plus.
