3ds max export to 3ds file cropping and placement issue

Hi all, I tryed putting all my textures on a 512 X 512 bitmap and then in 3dsmax 2011 I was using the materials cropping and placement settings to locate the texture for that material using this large image. it works in the 3dsmax interface but when I export as 3DS to irrlitch engin it comes out all messed up. The cropping and the placement parameters are ignored, and the texture its applied to the model in a wrong way.

Is there a way to get the locations of the texture and pass them back to the 3DS files mesh uv coords.
