Softimage Xsi: Symmetry with Extrusions

Posted: December 15, 2006
The symmetry tools in XSI are nice, however, after watching a video demonstration and reading the docs over, it seems that the symmetry only functions on transformations of points\edges\faces.

However, it will not function when you try to extrude a face on one side and hope to have it do the same on the other.

Is there a quick way to solve this? Or would I just have to model half, duplicate n inverse it, weld vertices, and than call symmetry on again if I chose to work with just transformations?

You just have to clone(not duplicate) the half of the object, scale it negatively then merge the 2 halves with history.
Now you can hide the negatively scaled clone.
Make the merged object unselectable after subdividing it with geometry approximation (by pressing +).
Now you can work on the original half and see how your entire smoothed object looks. It's a really great way to work. You can extrude and do all kind of modifications.
