Job details: Lead Environment Artist Experienced environment artist/architect with the skills and passion to conceptualize and create believable, gameplay-rich worlds in a variety of styles.


Job Responsibilities

Environment Art

Designing, modeling, texturing, and lighting 3D architectural, gameplay-rich environments
Collaborating with Lead Artist, Lead Designer and Lead Level Designer to design visually stunning, atmospheric environments and implement innovative gameplay mechanics.
Assist the Lead Artist with pre-production documentation, production processes, and team mentorship.
As required, assisting in other areas of project art development.

Department Status Reporting

Produce a weekly report summarizing the overall status of your department based on personal analysis and the As and Os and team status reports submitted by your immediate subordinates (Jr. Leads) to the Producer and their Director by the end of the day Monday. This report should include:
o The high-level accomplishments that the department has made from the prior week along with any significant objectives that have not been hit.
o For any objectives that have not been hit, a proposed course of action for addressing them.
o The high-level goals for his/her department for the week ahead and, if applicable, any risks/mitigating factors to accomplishing them.
o If applicable, recommendations for particular praise/acknowledgement that should be given to his/her team members performing beyond expectation.
o If applicable, reporting issues/concerns with the general performance of his/her team members and proposed course of action to remedy situation.

Mentoring

Assist your Jr. Lead staff with guidance on particular techniques both in terms of their area of specialization and general managerial techniques as required.
Coordinate with your Director to arrange special training/mentoring initiatives/seminars to aid his/her department if deemed necessary.

Supervision

Check-in with each of your Jr. Leads individually at least once a week to review team progress, provide feedback and encouragement and to assess whether there are any potential issues/concerns brewing with or between any team members.


Department Direction

In coordination with Your Director and Associate Producer, a Sr. Lead member of staff is expected to conduct a weekly meeting with his/her department to review progress, provide a forum to discuss and determine solutions for any development issues, underscore current high-level goals and/or provide additional/revised direction as required.


Personnel Issue Reporting / Resolving

Report issues or concerns regarding the attitude and/or performance of his colleagues should they arise to your Director and/or Producer.
Propose / determine a solution for addressing any personnel issues that arise in coordination with your Director and/or Producer and assist directly in the resolution of these issues. If the problem is of sufficient concern and/or is not being remedied after informal attempts to address it by the Sr. Lead / Director / Producer, then Human Resources and, if necessary, Executive Management should be notified along with the formal action proposed to address the problem.


Job Requirements

Creative vision and passion for console and PC games.
Demonstrable experience designing, modeling, texturing, and lighting levels/environment using Maya and/or 3DStudioMax.
Proficiency in Photoshop; must be able to create clean, efficient and tileable textures in a myriad of styles.
At least 2 years experience in the games industry.


Skills

Willing to accept and provide direction, work well under pressure, and handle multiple tasks.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Able to work autonomously from the Lead Artist while maintaining the art direction.


Pluses

Strong architecture or traditional art background (B.A. or equivalent degree preferred).
CSG world building experience.
Strong 2d/3d conceptual skills.
Game design and/or creative writing experience.
