duration - Full Time

Job details: Lighting Artist Summary: Our lighting artist sets up scene lights and rendering attributes for static images, cinematics, presentation materials, and marketing animations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following (we need to sound organized!). Other duties may be assigned.

-Sets up lights using both traditional methods and global illumination solutions in Maya and mental ray.
-Renders large scene files with mental ray, Maya software, and proprietary renderers.
-Jams on a guitar for our Frag Fest Fridays where Guitar Hero is often featured. Full knowledge of musicology not necessarily required.
-Renders with Insomniacs farm via Rush.
-Assembles frames in After Effects for final output.
-Sets up scene lights to match color keys and concept art.
-Stays informed about new developments in rendering, particularly with regard to realistic lighting and surfaces.
-Required to express humor in the office in sarcastic, weird, and oftentimes apolitically correct ways.
-Understands Insomniacs lighting process for real-time art.
-Lights game levels.
-Organizes and tracks model and texture directories.
-Maintains a working knowledge of Maya, mental ray, and proprietary shaders.
-Troubleshoots large scene files.

Education and/or Experience: Bachelors of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) in computer graphics, illustration, or fine art preferred from a four-year college or university; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Computer Skills:
Should possess an extensive knowledge of lighting and rendering with mental ray and Maya software renderers. Knowledge of After Effects a plus.
