It's different beast from 3ds max. Vue is oriented on landscapes, nature illustrations and animations creation. And it handles it really well.

Imagine glued paper figurine or turned inside out skin of animal. Basically to texture everything right you need to represent 3D model on flat 2D surface (process of unwrapping). Depending on UVLayout ...

It's better to do what you do best. So if you are good writer - find good 3D animator and pay/interest him to work with you.
If blender is complicated for you - other software will be complicated too ...
