cgtextures is no doubt one of best free resources. But if you looking for quality textures You need to check arroway textures

3ds max is full of miseries. Many problems can be resolved just by reseting max. By resering max i mean to delete 3dsmax.ini file.

In my opinion max default hair and fur is beter solution. Just remember to ser fur render method to mrPrime
