I would add blender 3d to this list. It has all the tools that the software you listed have and even more. The fact that it is free doesn't mean it is not up to the industry standard.

Those are just halfassed crossfire/sli solutions

But if you want a REALLY complex scene.. using the CPU will be slow anyway

In the modify panel there is the make unique button.
Or you can loose the modifier stack by converting to editable poly...

Wow, this tesselating could've saved me a lot of work before.
Set the tesselate to 0.0 and you can add more poly's (including edges and so forth) without ruining the shape.
