Post subject: Dividing an object into groups
Reply
Hello all, I just purchased a model of a AH6 littlebird from turbosquid for $50.00 hoping to animate the blades of the helicopter so that they spin around.

Unfortunately the helicopter came as one object. I want to split this object into two groups: the blades of the helicopter and the rest of the helicopter.

What is the easy method of doing this?

Thanks

Maybe if you'll go to ELEMENTS of editable poly then you'll find that you can select blades as separate element and simply use detach option. If blades aren't an element then you have to do same thing but by selecting al blades polygons to detach it.

duplicate it, and delete the blades one and the body on the other. then group or parent the two. repeat the process to separate the the blades
