3ds max, Autocad, Vray, Mentalray, Cinema 4d, Maya, Modo, Archicad. You can use all of them or several or just one. Its all your choice)

For a lower price you can bye Carrara8 pro.
It is a very cool Software.

Our company Frontop use vray, 3ds max.
Yesterday, I found another software, modo. I'm trying to use it.

Max and Vray are common (and powerful) but have a really steep learning curve. If you're committed to make it you may as well go for the final goal though right?

You can use 3ds max,maya,ZBush,softimage,V-ray,and a lot of soft,you can choose any of them base on your taste.

3dsmax and vray is everything you need for architectual visualisation.
