The latest Acrobat edition of Animation World Magazine is now available for download. This edition covers the topics of education and training. Karen Raugust looks into European schools, offering a variety of programs focusing on 2D and 3D animation and visual effects. Raugust also investigates a Purdue University research project using 3D animation and virtual reality to teach math concepts to hearing impaired school children. Christopher Harz profiles Gnomon, the visual effects school smack in the middle of Hollywood. Tom Sito traces the history of animation education and shows how a new discipline came about.

In addition, Joe Strike takes the pitch, looking at the production of IDT Ent.’s first theatrical animated feature, EVERYONE’S HERO. As for columns, Dr. Toon chats with New York indie animator Patrick Smith about his new film, PUPPET, his career and animation in general. In “Animator’s Unearthed,” Chris Robinson finds complex themes in the simple story of Andreas Hykade’s THE RUNT. Mark Simon takes on the knightly challenge between the Job Inquisitor and the Job Searcher, in this month’s “Mind Your Business.” Nancy Cartwright shares the results of her readers’ survey from her August column and finds inspiration in the answers. In this month’s “Career Coach,” Pamela Kleibrink Thompson lists the top seven ways to make a great impression on an interviewer.

For reviews, Denna Morse traveled to Japan and discovered a lot of love and peace at the Hiroshima International Animation Festival. Nancy Denney-Phelps road the rapids of KROK and loved every bit of the ride. Libby Reed cracks open David B. Levy’s new book, YOUR CAREER IN ANIMATION: HOW TO SURVIVE AND THRIVE, and tells us whether it really is a handy guide or is going to just get you lost on the career path. And as always Taylor Jessen is back with five short film reviews in “Fresh from the Festivals.”
