Imagine it'd be useful for simulating physics in a 3d animation scene
Instead of waiting ages |

But if you want a REALLY complex scene.. using the CPU will be slow anyway
Not talking about software limitations here.. just the vast hardware difference of PPU vs CPU For that kind of calculation |

Only in theory
PPU does very little right now |

Depends on what you use it for |

Show me one benchmark it does any good on
Heh Besides their own Cell Factor Nothing uses it efficiently right now If at all even ATI is aggressivly seeking their own GPU based solution. |

You're talking about games
I said it could be used for 3d applications |

I've only heard XSI announce it
But I don't believe it's implemented yet If it has, there has been no testing of it yet |

Only XSI 5 Advanced
No other apps so far Ppu technology is in stage of infancy |

Right now it needs the game more so
Game market* So they need a few killer titles Or it won't go past infacy Especially if ATI or nVidia can counter it |

I doubt it will die off
This isn't some premature gimmick like Virtual Reality in 95 It will either live on in some form or another Either as part of Nvidia/ATI Gpu's.. or as a function in SLI-solutions Or Ageia will conquer that market |

I'm not talking about physics acceleration in general
I'm speaking of Ageia And their sucess They need to justify now a reason to own a $200 physics card |

Oh ok
Time will tell But I remember people said the same thing when the voodoo came |

Gobbled up by Nvidia
Nvidia was one of the "babies" born out of the GPU generation You are talking not just about Ageia specifically, but the concept and idea of a tertiary PPU Whether it be in the form of Ageia... or Ageia bought up by Nvidia Or ATI did you see that documentary? |

For the PPU though I'd prefer ATI or nVidia |

To be exact 1 hour 13 minutes
They wouldn't have the same know-how that Meqon/Ageia has though.. The problem is that the PPU requires cooling Both chips under one fan? I would hope one of them just bought Ageia and assimilated it into a GPU :p If they'd try it alone, without their experience, I know they'd just do it halfassed |
