not in max
i have a 5750xt and if i use direct x with max, it sucks with realtime shaders
open gl works much better with max imho

that actually depends on what type of screen adapter you have
the general perception seems to be that ati runs better with d3d, and nvida better on opengl
i've had both, and i had to switch depending on which i had

maybe...never used/had ati
thats mabye a reason why 3d guys usually use nvidia and not ati

im actually more satisfied with ati than nvidia, but that might because I allways had low end nvidia and high end ati

not so sure it's all that simple Shawn but then again I've had very small amounts of experiense with nvidia and CGI
