Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc. (SCEA) is looking for Sr. Artist / Character Artist
duration - Full Time

Job details: Sr. Artist / Character Artist Responsibilities:

* Responsible for designing, as well as creating from concept, the
highest quality 3D character models and textures.
* Collaborate between animation, design, and programming to enhance a
system, understanding technological issues and how they would relate to
art and implementation.
* Work with the Art Leads and Creative Director in defining Character
quality standards, direction, design, and implementation.
* Anticipate how characters will blend into game engines artistically
and visually.
* Work with Design, Animation, and World/Level Art disciplines to
ensure the consistency and quality of all characters.
* Take direction and feedback from Art Director, Art Lead, and Creative
Director.
* Works with colleagues, and other team members. Takes time to help
others achieve their goals and assignments.

Qualifications:

* Applicant would have a four year degree in art, and at least five
years of work related experience.
* Demonstrate a superior understanding of creating AAA-quality 2D and
3D art.
* Possess excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal
skills.
* Have a strong understanding of games and game character design. *
Knowledge of console or PC game platform limitations should be
excellent.
* Must have an extensive fine art background and a strong understanding
of the basic elements, principles, and practices of form, color, and
design in two and three dimensions.

Skills:

* Produce high quality characters whether high or low in polygon count.
* Expert level texture painting and UV application skills.
* Intimate knowledge and skill with Photoshop.
* Skilled use in 3DSMax or Maya.
* Working knowledge of Z-Brush.
* Understanding of rigging and weighting characters in 3DS Max, or Maya.
* Experience with character animation is also a plus.
* Possess the skills to design/create from verbal descriptions, while
working within technical limitations.
* Understanding, and practical application of human proportions and
anatomy.
* Ability to draw from life, and can draw original content.
* Great communication skills, and the ability to be a part of a team,
clearly and effectively expresses verbal and written ideas.
* Must have the drive to push ones self artistically and always want to
improve skills.
* Ability to perform a variety of tasks, often changing assignments on
short notice. Willing to modify plans when necessary to meet a goal.
* A self-starter who works well without close supervision and achieves
goals beyond minimal levels of performance.
* Has the ability and desire to learn new job-related information.
* Takes personal satisfaction in performance and accomplishments.
* Can maintain priorities and handles multiple tasks.
* Stays abreast of changing situations to identify problems and
opportunities.
* Works in a wide range of artistic styles, and can maintain the
appropriate style over the course of the project.
