establish a digital studio or a digital production house

Hi all, I am new to the site, and also i am new to the world of animation. It is my childhood dream to work with visual effects. But I don't want a job, because I am already doing a telecom job. So I shall be thankful if any one helps to get a overview of how the digital studios or the production houses work.

But it will be helpful if anyone can suggest about the primary requirements that a digital studio must have or the kind of job it must do to begin its journey in the competing market. For your information let me tell you that I prefer the detailing or finalizing kind of job. But I don't know where to start.
