Job details: Lead World Designer BioWare Austin seeks candidates for the position of Lead World Designer with BioWare's first Massively Multiplayer Online game studio in Austin, Texas. The position is responsible for designing an overarching vision for the implementation of the world's different localities in conjunction with the Lead Environmental Artist and the Lead Designer. In conjunction with the Lead System Designer, the Lead World Designer works with the programming department to design any tools that the level designers need. The successful candidate for this position will have the opportunity to work with a seasoned team of game industry professionals with impeccable credentials; you will share the responsibility of creating a game not seen before, shaping the future of the new BioWare online game world.

Experience and Qualifications
Various degrees of education and experience will be considered provided the candidate's application demonstrates the following requirements:
Minimum education (preferred but not mandatory): Four year post-secondary degree with an emphasis in computer science, or equivalent experience, BSc preferred.
5 years of professional game design experience, one or more shipped game titles.

Responsibilities
Designs an overarching vision for the implementation of the world's different localities (areas, levels, etc) in conjunction with the Lead Environmental Artist and the Lead Designer.
Organizes the creation and upkeep of all level design documentation.
Tracks assets for all levels on a project (e.g. cinematics, sound, dialogue, animation, art placeables, etc.)
Ensures that all members of the project team are using the appropriate level design documentation.
In conjunction with the Lead System Designer;
o Works with the programming department to design any tools that the level designers need. Test the tools as they become available.
o Defines needed scripting functions for the level designers.
o Works with programmers to develop extensive logging systems.
o Responsible for enforcing scripting standards and commenting rules.
Performs other duties as required.
Coordinates testing of story and level design with the QA department.

Management Responsibilities
Acts as the prime interface for levels between Design and Art.
Monitors the assembly schedule for all the levels on a project
Ensure that team members know their tasks and how to achieve their tasks.
Ensure that team members have clear communication with each other and other studio members.
Mentor team members.
Responsible (with the lead designer) for reviewing team members on the project.
Responsible for reviewing level design and organizing level design critique sessions

Skill Set
Familiarity with fantasy role-playing games is a must.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proven ability to work well in a team environment.
Superior organization skills and works well under deadlines.
